RSC-007: referenced resource not found

Plain English meaning

Some file inside the EPUB points to another resource, but that target resource cannot be found. The missing target could be an image, CSS file, font, audio file, chapter, or navigation target.

Why it happens

What you can check yourself

  1. Look at the exact file path in the EPUBCheck error.
  2. Open the EPUB as a ZIP copy.
  3. Search for the missing filename inside the package.
  4. Check whether the file exists under a slightly different name or folder.

What can usually be fixed

If the resource exists under the wrong path, the references can usually be corrected. If the resource is missing but available from the source project, it can be added and referenced correctly.

What cannot be promised

If the resource is genuinely missing and cannot be supplied, it cannot be restored from thin air. If the missing file is a licensed font or image, permission and replacement decisions belong to the author or publisher.
